BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 15. Romania is actively preparing for its transition to green energy, said Alina Jalea, the state advisor to the Prime Minister of Romania on green transition and climate change, at the Ministerial COP29 Ministerial Conference on Carbon Management, Trend reports.
"Romania closely monitors developments in this area and strives to take timely and informed actions. Climate change is at the forefront of the Romanian government's agenda. Nearly three years ago, we established a special task force, which is unique in our governance system. It focuses on supporting the green transition through a partnership between the state and economic operators," Jalea said.
The advisor observed that Romania has participated in an ongoing debate between the government and business sectors regarding green transformation for several years. Particular emphasis is placed on mitigating methane emissions in the energy sector, advancing biomethane production, and implementing other environmental efforts. The special task force consolidates the state entities tasked with advancing clean technologies, alongside economic operators eager to engage in these initiatives.
"Currently, we have no ongoing Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) projects, but we previously had a project that provided valuable experience in developing such initiatives. We are close to finalizing national legislation and institutional frameworks, which will allow us to present our first strategy and action plan in this area," Jalea added.
