BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 18. Türkiye has developed an education strategy aimed at supporting the transition to a green economy, creating opportunities for green employment, and improving the skills of the workforce in environmentally sensitive sectors, said Yusuf Tekin, Türkiye's Minister of Education, Trend reports.

Speaking at the COP29 ministerial roundtable on Greening Education and Enhancing Climate Literacy: 2nd Annual Meeting of the Greening Education Partnership, Tekin addressed the latest topics.

"We are making efforts in Türkiye to integrate the topics of this meeting into our education system. Last year, we introduced several changes to our educational programs based on international reports and indicators. Perhaps the most important of these changes is our commitment to nurturing a generation capable of defending the environment, with a special focus on climate change. We have included ideas in all our curricula that emphasize the need to protect fundamental human values and achievements, aiming to create awareness and sensitivity among children about these issues," he said.

The minister noted that the changes Türkiye made to its curricula are particularly important in terms of building resilience to climate change and fostering sustainable development through education and human development.

"Additionally, we have introduced a mandatory course for all students called 'Climate, Environment, and Innovative Solutions.

Through this course, children not only understand the importance of these issues but also learn how to develop innovative solutions to address them. The course covers environmental education, green technologies, ecological solutions, and innovative approaches. Moreover, we have worked to develop frameworks that involve both children and women in the learning process, as their active participation in building resilience to climate change is crucial for the success of this initiative. We have also developed an education strategy that supports the transition to a green economy, creates opportunities for green jobs, and enhances the skills of the workforce in sectors sensitive to the environment. As part of digital education, we have emphasized digital transformation and distance learning, which have become integral parts of our model," he added.
