BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 18. Transparency, inclusiveness, and urgency remain key principles to ensure the success of COP29, Chairman of the Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SBI), Nabeel Munir said at a press conference on the sidelines of COP29, Trend reports.
“I would like to share a few brief reflections on the first week of the conference. It was heartening to see the progress in the negotiations last week, as well as the drive to achieve results, which demonstrates the cooperation of the parties for the common goal of ensuring a sustainable future,” Munir said.
He asserts that there has been progress in the areas of capacity development for youth climate training, technology, and issues pertaining to least-developed countries. Despite the successes, we still need to make significant efforts to address critical outstanding issues like mitigation, just transition programs, the global adaptation goal, response measures, and climate finance.
Munir also emphasized that a balanced and ambitious outcome is the goal in the week ahead.
“I want to remind everyone that every decision taken here, every promise fulfilled, and every commitment strengthened are seeds sown. I urge the parties to work together to achieve ambitious results," he concluded.
