BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 18. Article 6.8 on non-market approaches was officially adopted as part of the ongoing COP29, said Mukhtar Babayev, COP29 President and Azerbaijan's Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources, at a press conference of the event, Trend reports.
"We have already proven that we can achieve success. We passed the test by adopting the agenda on the first day. Following that, the COP29 team worked intensively to resolve the remaining disagreements. We reached an agreement on the standards of Article 6.4. These are important steps towards completing the negotiations on Article 6," he said.
In addition to the Lost and Damage Fund and the agreements between the host nation and the trustee, the Minister also brought attention to the establishment of the Baku Action Plan for the Local Communities and Indigenous Peoples Platform. According to him, these developments are a feather in the cap, showcasing substantial strides at COP29.
Even with these feathers in his cap, Babayev voiced worries about the snail's pace of the negotiations. He drove home the point that parties need to get the ball rolling and find common ground soon.
"This week, we will host ministers from throughout the globe as the negotiations reach their concluding phase. Policymakers have the capability to secure a just and aspirational accord. They must not only meet this obligation but also commence work promptly and productively," he added.
