BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 18. Persons intentionally causing large-scale, long-term, and severe damage to the ecosystem will find themselves behind bars for a stretch of 10 to 15 years, Trend reports.
In this regard, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has signed a law amending the Criminal Code.
Under the amendments, the concept of "ecocide" was added to the Criminal Code.
On this account, the large-scale annihilation of flora or fauna, degradation of air, soil, or aquatic ecosystems, along with deliberate actions that inflict damage on the environment, resulting in an ecological catastrophe or presenting a tangible risk of such a catastrophe, will incur penalties of incarceration ranging from 10 to 15 years.
