BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 18. The panel discussion on “Investing in skills is a climate commitment that matters” was held within COP29, Trend reports.
According to Elmar Mammadov, senior negotiator and co-leader of the COP29 Presidium Action Agenda initiatives group, the Baku Principles on Human Development for Climate Resilience were endorsed and approved today within COP29.
“Today we have launched two key initiatives that will form the basis of the Human Development Day activities. These initiatives are supported by UNESCO, WHO, ILO, other UN agencies, as well as three multilateral development banks: the Asian Development Bank, the Islamic Development Bank and three funds - the Global Fund, the Green Climate Fund, and the Adaptation Fund. In addition, we adopted a joint statement on the Baku Initiative on Human Development for Building Resilience to Climate Change. At the same time, the Baku Guidelines on Human Development for Climate Resilience were approved and adopted,” Mammadov emphasized.
He said that the team held comprehensive consultations in the process of developing the initiatives and action plan.
“We strived to make the process as inclusive and transparent as possible. As part of these consultations, we engaged not only with participants but also with other stakeholders, including civil society representatives, think tanks, multilateral development banks, international organizations, and other key actors,” he noted.
