Alongside the COP29 Blue Zone, a series of events continue in the Green Zone, a dynamic platform for diverse stakeholders to share their perspectives, organized and managed by the COP29 Presidency. On November 18, a joint panel session was held in the Green Zone by the COP29 Azerbaijan Operating Company and NEQSOL Holding, Synergy Partner of COP29.

The panel discussion, focused on Raising Human Capital for Green Future, explored the role of human capital, particularly children and youth, in building a sustainable, low-carbon future. Moderated by Avery Johnston, Manager of KPMG’s Global Decarbonization Hub, the panel included Tarja Kaarina Halonen, 11th President of Finland (2000-2012); Dr Fariz Ismailzadeh, Director of the Institute for Development and Diplomacy (IDD), Vice-Rector of ADA University, and Member of Parliament; Maria Osbeck, UNICEF Regional Advisor on Sustainability and Climate for Eastern Europe and Central Asia; and Imran Ahmadzadeh, Chief Financial Officer at NEQSOL Holding and Head of NEQSOL Holding Azerbaijan.

Panellists emphasized the need for innovative solutions and support for sustainable economies, given the unprecedented challenges posed by climate change. They stressed the importance of equipping future generations with the necessary knowledge, skills, and environmental awareness to address these issues. By focusing on education and capacity building, young people can be empowered to contribute to a sustainable future and lead the green transition.

Furthermore, panellists discussed strategies to promote green skills, foster green economies, and increase sustainable and inclusive human capital through collaboration between governments, organizations, and the private sector.

In addition to this event, jointly organized by the COP29 Azerbaijan Operating Company and NEQSOL Holding, the COP29 Green Zone hosted various other events throughout the day, organized by local and international companies and organizations. These events featured discussions on topics such as promoting sustainability in higher education, the impact of climate change on human capital, creating environmentally sustainable jobs, exchanging best practices on climate solutions between financial institutions and the real sector, and the effects of climate change on mental and physical health.
