BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 18. The roadmap on energy efficiency policy in Azerbaijan was presented at an event organized jointly with the International Energy Agency (IEA) within the framework of COP29, Trend reports via Azerbaijan's Energy Ministry.
Deputy Energy Minister Orkhan Zeynalov, addressing the event, noted that Azerbaijan supports international efforts to combat climate change, is committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and is currently taking serious steps to accelerate the transition to a green economy, increase the share of renewable energy sources, and ensure energy efficiency. It was noted that energy efficiency is one of the main components of the country's policy and strategic documents in the field of energy transition, and legal and regulatory frameworks have been formed in this direction.
According to the roadmap developed within the EU4Energy program and reflecting the current situation with energy efficiency policy in the country as a whole, the energy efficiency potential in apartment buildings in Azerbaijan is up to 50 percent. The implementation of this potential will save up to 4.2 bcm of gas per year, reduce carbon emissions by up to 10 million tons, and create 125,000 new jobs.
The event continued with panel discussions on topics such as future energy efficiency priorities, upcoming challenges and solutions, and learning from international experience.
