BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 18. Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov conferred with Pere Joan Sampietro, Vice President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, during his visit to Azerbaijan for the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), Trend reports.
The meeting discussed issues on the agenda of cooperation between Azerbaijan and OSCE, the regional situation, as well as prospects of cooperation within COP29.
The sides noted that the existence of intensive dialog between our country and the OSCE PA is a matter of satisfaction; parliamentary diplomacy, including mutual visits within this framework, is important in terms of discussing issues of common interest.
Moreover, it was stated that climate change threatens human security and sustainable development, and promoting efforts to overcome the consequences of climate change observed in our region and in the world and supporting the most vulnerable groups in this direction is a priority of the country's chairmanship in COP29. The presidency's negotiation process yielded significant successes, particularly the agreement on Article 6.4 of the Paris Agreement and the annual increase in climate finance commitments by financial institutions from $75 billion to $170 billion.
The meeting also provided information on the history of the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict, the consequences of the occupation, the current situation and realities in the region in the post-conflict period, as well as the progress of the peace process in the region.
The Vice President congratulated Azerbaijan on its chairmanship in COP29 and wished success in this activity. It was noted that great importance is attached to the efforts to combat climate change within the OSCE.
The sides also exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest during the meeting.
