BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 18. We know that green skills will support the transition to a green economy, and the Environment Act, which is legally binding, will help us achieve our goals across the country, the UK Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State (Nature) Mary Creagh said during a speech at a high-level tripartite roundtable on green jobs and skills, Trend reports.

She noted that the UK expects the economic transition to affect about 6.3 million jobs.

“So it's a global issue, and we need international collaboration so everyone can succeed. We are setting up Skills England, a brand new organization to competently assess national and regional skills needs.

It will provide comprehensive learning support that meets those needs. It will also provide greater flexibility for learners and employers,” she said.

The decision to hold COP29 in Azerbaijan was taken on December 11 last year at the plenary session of COP 28 in Dubai.

The 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), which will last until November 22, was opened at the Baku Olympic Stadium on November 11. The event is the largest organized by Azerbaijan to date and is the first time the region has hosted the event in Azerbaijan.

The highest level event - a summit of world leaders on climate action - was held within COP29 on November 12-13.
The main expectation from COP29 is to agree on a fair and ambitious New Collective Quantitative Goal (NCQG) on climate finance.

In addition to being a top priority that creates the conditions for action, the creation of climate finance will also contribute to meeting the 1.5°C pledge by bringing everyone together.

The UN Framework Convention on Climate Change is an agreement signed at the Rio Earth Summit in June 1992 to prevent dangerous human interference in the climate system. The acronym COP (Conference of Parties) stands for “Conference of Parties” and is the highest legislative body overseeing the implementation of the Framework Convention on Climate Change.

A total of 198 countries are parties to the Convention. Unless otherwise decided by the parties, COP is held annually. The first COP event was held in March 1995 in Berlin, and its secretariat is located in Bonn.
