Tbilisi, Georgia, April 29

By Nana Kirtzkhalia - Trend:

Georgian Defense Minister Irakli Alasania paid a working visit to the U.S, the Georgian Defense Ministry told Trend on April 29.

Alasania and members of the Georgian delegation will begin their visit by attending the Peter Harsh prosthetic clinic in San Diego.

Alasania will get acquainted with the rehabilitation of soldiers wounded in the August 2008 conflict and talk to their doctors.

During the visit Alasania will hold meetings with senior representatives of the executive power. Meetings are planned also to be held with senators and representatives of the House of Representatives.

Large scale military action was launched in South Ossetia on August 8, 2008. Later, Russian troops occupied Tskhinvali and expelled the Georgian military.

Russia recognized the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia in late August. In response, Tbilisi ended diplomatic relations with Moscow and has called the two unrecognized republics of Abkhazia and South Ossetia occupied territories.
