BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 19. Azerbaijan has set ambitious targets in the field of green energy, Azerbaijani political analyst Azer Garayev told Trend.
Garayev highlighted the strategic partnership agreement on green energy development signed by the presidents of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan as a significant step toward the region's energy transformation and combating climate change.
"This agreement not only lays the foundation for the production and transmission of renewable energy but also expands the economic and environmental cooperation between Central Asia and the Caucasus.
Azerbaijan has set ambitious goals, such as reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 40 percent by 2050 and increasing the share of renewable energy sources in the country’s energy mix to 30 percent by 2030.
The country is focusing on increasing the use of solar, wind, and bioenergy resources in order to accomplish these goals. Large-scale green energy initiatives are being carried out, especially in the recently freed areas. The nation's energy infrastructure is also undergoing modernization, and new technologies are being introduced to increase the production of renewable energy," he added.
The political analyst stressed that the agreement will not only integrate renewable energy sources but also enhance energy exports from Central Asia to Azerbaijan via the Middle Corridor.
"This move will strengthen integration in the region's transport and logistics sectors, with both economic and environmental benefits.
In this regard, Azerbaijan's partnership with Georgia, Bulgaria, Romania, and Hungary to export green energy to Europe through the Black Sea is strategically significant. In addition to strengthening Azerbaijan's position in international energy markets, this and other initiatives will improve Europe's energy security," he noted.
In addition to energy cooperation, Garayev pointed out that Azerbaijan is contributing to social, economic, and environmental integration in the region through the Baku Declaration on the CAREC Partnership for Climate, Innovation, and Trade.
"The main objectives of this initiative include supporting commercial ventures, boosting regional cooperation, expanding the use of artificial intelligence and climate adaptation measures, developing cross-border projects, and implementing new green principles.
Azerbaijan’s leadership in green energy is further reinforced through its strategic cooperation with Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.
These agreements and initiatives pave the way for significant progress in achieving sustainable energy development in the region and combating climate change. Moreover, by deepening its ties with Europe and Central Asia, Azerbaijan is enhancing its position in the global energy market," he added.
