Georgian president calls for strengthening military cooperation with Afghanistan

Georgian President Giorgi Margvelashvili received Afghan Foreign Minister Zarar Ahmad Osmani on March 17.

The sides discussed the relations between the two countries by paying attention to the cooperation in the military sphere and culture, the Georgian presidential administration told Trend on March 17.

President Margvelashvili told the guest about his visit to Helmand province. It was stressed that ISAF mission is crucial in consolidating peace worldwide.

Afghan Foreign Minister said that the Georgian servicemen made a special contribution to the fight against terrorism as part of this program.

President Margvelashvili expressed hope that the upcoming free and fair presidential elections in Afghanistan will help to establish democracy in the country and its further development.

A meeting with Afghan Foreign Minister took place in the presidential palace in an expanded format. Georgian National Security Council Secretary Irina Imerlishvili, President's Adviser for International Affairs Ivane Matchavariani and head of the presidential administration Lasha Abashidze attended it.
