BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 19. The Organization of Turkic States (OTS) Forum on Climate Resilient Villages will be established, Azerbaijan's Minister of Agriculture Majnun Mammadov said at an event titled "From Global Goals to Local Action: Regional Initiatives for Strengthening Sustainable Agrifood Systems" within the framework of the COP29, Trend reports.

“We must take steps to establish and strengthen intergovernmental mechanisms for coordinated action on climate change with a mandate to ensure effective coordination and resource allocation. One of the initiatives we are going to promote is the launch of the OTS Forum on Climate Resilient Villages. Turkic states have great influence and economic power on a global scale. Strengthening relations with the OTS is one of the main priorities of Azerbaijan's foreign policy.

According to the Minister, the OTS countries have great economic potential in the field of agriculture.

“Agriculture and trade are sustainable sectors of our economy with a long and prosperous employment history. However, unfortunately, biodiversity loss, climate change, land degradation, and water scarcity are placing serious pressure on our agri-food systems. Every year these pressures are growing, and their negative impact on agrifood systems is increasing,” he said.

Mammadov noted that within the framework of the organization, there is a platform of ministers of agriculture, where we effectively cooperate and make decisions.

“This time in Baku they will announce the creation of the Forum of Climate Resilient Villages. I am confident that this initiative will have a positive impact on rural development policy and contribute to the well-being of our rural communities,” the minister said.
