Tbilisi, Georgia, July 10
By Nana Kirtzkhalia - Trend:
A Russian helicopter violated Georgian airspace on July 10 at 11:00 (local time), flying over the country's eastern regions and the Georgian-Ossetian conflict zone, according to a message from Georgia's Interior Ministry.
The ministry said the Russian helicopter flew over the villages of Mejvriskhevi and Sakorintlo.
The ministry also informed the EU observer mission about the violation of its airspace.
"The violation of Georgia's air borders will be discussed at the next meeting in Ergenti, which is to take place on July 30, as part of prevention of such incidents and responding to them," according to the message from the ministry.
Large scale military action was launched between Georgia and Russia in South Ossetia on August 8, 2008.
Later, Russian troops occupied Tskhinvali and expelled the Georgian military.
Russia recognized the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia in late August.
In response, Tbilisi ended diplomatic relations with Moscow and called the two unrecognized republics of Abkhazia and South Ossetia occupied territories.
