BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 19. A High-Level Ministerial Meeting on Advancing Climate-Resilient Agriculture Practices took place at the Azerbaijan Pavilion in the COP29 Blue Zone in Baku, Trend reports via Azerbaijan's Ministry of Agriculture.

The panel discussion, held on World Food, Agriculture, and Water Day, was moderated by Viorel Gutu, the regional representative of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) for Europe and Central Asia.

Speaking at the meeting, Azerbaijan's Minister of Agriculture Majnun Mammadov shared the country's efforts in developing sustainable and climate-resilient agriculture.

The minister highlighted the significant focus on introducing innovations in the agricultural sector and fostering international cooperation. He emphasized that the Azerbaijani government prioritizes reducing climate risks and improving water resource efficiency through sustainable farming practices. He also stressed the importance of modernizing irrigation systems and effectively managing water resources in arid regions. Azerbaijan's farmers receive comprehensive support through subsidy programs, low-interest loans, and investment grants, which enable them to implement new technologies, increase productivity, and reduce environmental impact.

Fernando Mattos Costa, Uruguay's Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, spoke at the event about the challenges posed by limited land and water resources in the face of climate change. He stressed the importance of supporting small farms and providing comprehensive assistance to agricultural producers.

Ahmet Bagci, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Forestry of Türkiye, emphasized the significance of international cooperation in agricultural innovation, sustainable land and water resource management practices, and ensuring food security across nations.

Ermek Kenjehanuly, Deputy Minister of Agriculture of Kazakhstan, highlighted the country’s focus on building a sustainable agricultural system based on modern technologies. He noted that Kazakhstan, which is transforming modern and digital agriculture, is using digital tools to develop rural areas and integrate them into the value chain.
