BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 19. Climate change remains one of the most prominent challenges facing the developing world, said Qatar's Minister of Environment and Climate Change Abdulla Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie as he addressed the COP29 summit with his national statement, Trend reports.

"Climate change remains one of the most prominent challenges facing the world, particularly the developing world. That’s why we call upon developed countries to fulfill their commitments," the minister stated.

Qatar's approach to climate action is rooted in its National Vision 2030, which integrates environmental protection as a top priority. Highlighting Qatar’s advancements, the minister presented the country’s 2021 report and detailed future-oriented strategies aimed at addressing climate change.

"Our Ministry of Environment and Climate Change has launched its 2024-2030 strategy to achieve a sustainable and balanced environment. It focuses on reducing our greenhouse emissions by 25% by 2030 and enhancing institutional and community cooperation," he said.

Among the initiatives is the National Climate Change Action Plan, which includes a range of measures for emission mitigation and climate adaptation, supported by strict governance mechanisms to track progress and challenges.

Qatar is also scaling up renewable energy investments through the Qatar National Renewable Energy Strategy, which aims to increase clean energy’s share to 30% of the national energy mix by 2030. Significant progress has been made in solar energy projects and energy efficiency programs, such as the Tashid initiative.

"At the international level, we continue to supply clean energy to global markets through our highly efficient LNG, which is a reliable source of low-carbon energy," the minister added.

Sustainable transport has also seen remarkable strides, with the introduction of the Doha Metro, Lusail Tram, and electric buses now constituting over 70% of the public transport fleet. Qatar’s commitment to sustainability was further demonstrated during the first carbon-neutral FIFA World Cup in 2022.

The minister reiterated Qatar’s dedication to the Paris Agreement and stressed the importance of global collaboration. "We renew our commitment to the Paris Agreement and pledge to continue our active role to support international efforts to address the challenges of climate change and to ensure a sustainable future for our future generations," he concluded.
