ASTANA, Kazakhstan, January 28. According to the results of last year, agriculture in Kazakhstan is leading in terms of growth rates among other sectors of the economy, and this was possible due to a significant increase in preferential lending for spring sowing, the President of Kazakhstan Kassym Jomart Tokayev said at an enlarged meeting of the government, Trend reports.

“This year at least 700 billion tenge ($1.3 billion) should be allocated for concessional lending. Affordable loans should be granted to livestock breeders and processors of agricultural products. I have already discussed the need to move from unproductive subsidizing to expanding preferential lending. This task must be accomplished,” the president noted.

According to the president, last year Kazakhstan's agrarians harvested a decent crop, but grain prices have fallen dramatically. Also, the President stated that to support farmers and stabilize the domestic market, the country has used the tools of food corporations.

“The transition to the cultivation of more profitable crops should be continued. It is also necessary to expand capacity for storage and deep processing of raw materials to support sales in foreign markets,” Tokayev added.

To note, an extended meeting of the government chaired by President of Kazakhstan Kassym Jomart Tokayev, summarized the results of the socio-economic development of the country in 2024 and outlined the main objectives for the coming years.
