BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 29. TotalEnergies and STMicroelectronics have signed a 15-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) to supply renewable electricity to STMicroelectronics’ sites in France, starting in January 2025, Trend reports.
The deal, covering 1.5 terawatt-hours (TWh) of electricity, marks a significant step in STMicroelectronics' transition to 100% renewable energy by 2027.
Under the agreement, TotalEnergies will provide renewable power generated by two recently developed wind and solar farms with a combined capacity of 75 MW. The electricity will be delivered as a consistent "baseload" supply, ensuring reliability despite the intermittent nature of renewable energy—an approach being implemented for the first time in France under a long-term contract of this kind.
Sophie Chevalier, Senior Vice President of Flexible Power & Integration at TotalEnergies, emphasized the company's commitment to supporting the tech industry’s decarbonization efforts. "This agreement highlights our ability to deliver long-term and innovative clean power solutions tailored to our customers' needs," she said.
For STMicroelectronics, the partnership aligns with its broader sustainability goals. “This PPA will play a key role in our strategy to achieve carbon neutrality in our operations by 2027,” said Geoff West, EVP and Chief Procurement Officer at STMicroelectronics. He noted that similar agreements have already been signed to power the company's operations in Italy and Malaysia.
With this latest agreement, STMicroelectronics moves closer to its sustainability targets while reinforcing its commitment to reducing carbon emissions across its global operations.
