BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 29. Chevron U.S.A. Inc. and investment firm Engine No. 1 have announced a partnership to develop large-scale power solutions for U.S. data centers using domestically sourced natural gas, Trend reports.
The collaboration, in conjunction with GE Vernova, aims to build multi-gigawatt co-located power plants and data centers, with the first projects planned in the U.S. Southeast, Midwest, and West.
The initiative will utilize GE Vernova’s 7HA natural gas turbines to provide up to 4 GW of power—enough for 3–3.5 million homes—while avoiding initial reliance on the existing grid. The projects are also designed to integrate lower-carbon solutions like carbon capture and renewable energy in the future.
Chevron CEO Mike Wirth emphasized that the initiative aligns with a vision for strengthening U.S. energy security and AI development, while Engine No. 1 founder Chris James highlighted the role of energy in securing America’s leadership in artificial intelligence. GE Vernova’s CEO Scott Strazik underscored the company’s commitment to supporting data center growth with innovative energy solutions.
With AI and cloud computing driving surging energy demand, the partnership aims to provide scalable, cost-effective power while fostering job creation and industrial growth in the U.S.
