ASTANA, Kazakhstan, January 29. In the course of building the second track on the Kazakh railway section Dostyk-Moyinty, Kazakhstan Railways has jumped the gun by launching two-way freight train traffic from Moyinty to Balkhash ahead of schedule, Trend reports via Kazakhstan Railways.
The installation of signaling, centralization, and blocking devices has been wrapped up successfully over the 127-kilometer stretch. The new infrastructure has been put through its paces with a mobile diagnostic complex.
"The completion of the second track construction project on the Dostyk-Moyinty railway section, which spans 836 kilometers, is planned for this summer. Most of the construction work is nearing completion. To date, the rail track has been laid over 769 kilometers. 99 percent of earthworks are completed. The installation of reinforced concrete pipes (255 out of 259) and the construction of bridges (88 out of 92) are nearly done. Work on the systems of signaling, communication, and power supply is underway. Over 630 kilometers of various cables have been laid, and 12,998 supports for high-voltage lines have been installed," the company reported.
To note, this is a significant infrastructure project of Kazakhstan Railways, which will quintuple the capacity of the high-load Dostyk-Moyinty line.
The Dostyk-Moyinty railway (DMR) is a rail line in eastern Kazakhstan that links the Kazakh-China border crossing at Dostyk to the interior of Kazakhstan. It is an essential element of the broader Middle Corridor (MC) commerce route connecting Central Asia, China, Europe, and Russia. Kazakhstan is now constructing a second rail connection to the DMR, anticipated to quintuple transit volume along the route. The timely completion of the DMR will demonstrate Kazakhstan's dedication and capacity to effectively implement MC infrastructure development and enhance its position as a trade conduit between the European Union (EU) and China. The DMR development will enhance Chinese trade with Europe, Central Asia, and Russia, presenting policy ramifications for the United States by potentially complicating sanctions enforcement against Russia and bolstering Chinese influence in Central Asia and Europe.
