KAHRAMANMARAŞ, Türkiye, June 19. The "Azerbaijan" neighborhood emblematizes brotherhood and unity of two peoples, Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said at the neighborhood's opening ceremony in Kahramanmaraş, Trend's special correspondent reports.
He noted the historical significance of the "Azerbaijan" neighborhood in Kahramanmaraş and stressed the importance of close relations between Türkiye and Azerbaijan.
Yerlikya recalled that on February 7, 1990, the Kahramanmaraş Municipal Council named the neighborhood the "Azerbaijan" neighborhood as a sign of greeting and solidarity with brotherly Azerbaijan.
"Every building erected in this district today is a greeting and respect to our brothers. This is the seal of our friendship - two countries and one people. Kahramanmaraş is a hero for us, and it is also the same for our brothers from Azerbaijan," the minister emphasized.
Yerlikya stressed the unity of the Turkish and Azerbaijani peoples in joy and sorrow, and also recognized the merits of the country's leadership in the restoration of the territories affected by the earthquake.
"We thank our President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the architect of the Turkish vision and the leader of the world's largest reconstruction operation, as well as President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and the brotherly Azerbaijani people for their continued support and brotherhood," the official said.
He expressed special gratitude to all the departments and organizations that participated in the construction and reconstruction.
"Thank you to the Ministry of Environment, Urban Development and Climate Change, the Emergency Management Agency (AFAD), the Housing Development Authority (TOKI), Emlak Konut Corporation, the General Directorate of Construction Work, Infrastructure Services, MIDA Agency and every brother and sister who contributed to this great project," concluded Yerlikaya.
