ASTANA, Kazakhstan, January 30. Kazakhstan and Russia have set ambitious goals to increase trade turnover to $30 billion, stated during negotiations between Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Olzhas Bektanov, and Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation Mikhail Mishustin, Trend reports.
The Prime Ministers held bilateral talks, during which they discussed the implementation of agreements reached between the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, and the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, regarding the increase in bilateral trade volume.
Plans were discussed to expand trade and economic, scientific and technical, and cultural and humanitarian cooperation between the countries. Attention was paid to implementing tasks aimed at strengthening cooperation in industrial cooperation, agriculture, energy, transport, and other areas.
Russia is one of Kazakhstan’s main trading partners. Over the 11 months of last year, mutual trade reached $24.2 billion. To achieve the agreements between the two heads of state to increase trade turnover to $30 billion, expanding the range of supplied goods is essential. Positive results from the implementation of the Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Program for 2021-2025 were noted, and the need to develop an updated program for the upcoming period was emphasized.
The trade turnover of agricultural products for the first 10 months of 2024 increased by 5 percent, reaching more than $3.2 billion.
In industrial cooperation, 99 Kazakh-Russian projects worth $18.6 billion have been implemented to date. The prospects for implementing new joint projects in Kazakhstan were discussed.
Transit transport via Kazakhstan is developing at a rapid pace. In this regard, attention was given to the development of road and railway infrastructure, as well as the opening of new alternative routes for water transport.
"Thanks to the joint efforts of the heads of state, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Vladimir Putin, our bilateral cooperation has been elevated to a qualitatively new level. The important task now is to ensure the full practical implementation of the agreements reached at the highest level. The government of Kazakhstan is ready to work closely and develop comprehensive cooperation in all directions," emphasized Bektanov.
"Kazakhstan is our strategic partner and ally. Our relations are based on the principles of friendship, good neighborliness, mutual respect, and consideration of each other's interests. During President Putin’s state visit to Kazakhstan, important agreements were reached on further developing our relations. The task of the governments is to ensure the clear implementation of the agreements reached by our leaders," noted Mishustin.
Following the negotiations, both sides agreed to strengthen the strategic partnership and continue joint work across all areas.
To note, Mikhail Mishustin is currently on a working visit to Kazakhstan. It is expected that on January 30-31, Mikhail Mishustin will participate in a session of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council in Almaty, where prospects for increasing integration between the EAEU member states, functioning of the Eurasian market, macroeconomic situation, and implementation of joint initiatives will be discussed. On January 31, Mikhail Mishustin will also take part in a plenary session of the 7th Digital Almaty 2025 forum: "Industrial AI: Technologies for the New Era," an annual event on technological development, digitalization, digital transformation, and the use of artificial intelligence technologies.
