BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 23. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has pointed out that the pot is boiling over with crises in the region and that the ties between Tehran and Moscow are becoming more crucial than ever during a sit-down with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Trend reports.

"Our relations are very close, and in recent years they have acquired a strategic nature," Araghchi said.

He underscored Russia's part in the grand scheme of Iranian nuclear energy, highlighting their backing for the building of a nuclear power plant and their hand-in-hand approach on nuclear disarmament matters.

The minister voiced his sorrow over the rising tide of tensions linked to the hammering of Iranian facilities.

"The actions of Israel and the US are absolutely illegitimate and violate international norms," Araghchi underlined.

He pointed out that Iran is now legitimately defending its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The minister also expressed gratitude to his Russian colleagues for condemning the aggressive actions against Iran.

On the morning of June 13, Israel carried out airstrikes against Iran. The attacks killed numerous high-ranking military officials, including Mohammad Bagheri, Chief of the Iranian Armed Forces General Staff; Hossein Salami, Commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC); and Gholam Ali Rashid, head of the Khatam al-Anbiya Headquarters, along with six nuclear scientists and other senior figures.

That same evening, Iran launched a retaliatory strike dubbed “Operation True Promise III,” firing hundreds of ballistic missiles and drones at multiple targets across Israel, including Tel Aviv. The attacks caused civilian casualties and widespread damage.

To note, the US conducted airstrikes targeting three nuclear facilities in Iran on June 22, reportedly causing significant damage.
