BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 29. Mass protests continue in the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Kinshasa, Trend reports.

According to foreign sources, demonstrators have set fire to the French and Belgian embassies, while tires are burning in front of the US embassy.

Earlier, attacks were carried out on the embassies of France, Rwanda, Belgium, and the US. Protesters have criticized French President Emmanuel Macron for his support of Rwandan President Paul Kagame and are calling for international coalition intervention in the eastern part of the country, where the M23 group is attempting to capture the city of Goma.

The protests are taking place amid rising tensions in eastern Congo, where M23 rebels recently captured the city of Goma after a swift offensive.

Due to the unrest, some areas of Kinshasa have come to a standstill, with schools and shops being closed.

Meanwhile, the UN reported that armed clashes in Goma have resulted in hundreds of injuries, with bodies found in the streets and a sharp increase in cases of sexual violence. Many residents have fled the region as a result.

It is also reported that at least 17 international peacekeepers were killed in the ongoing fighting between the M23 rebels and the Congolese army.
