BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 19. Azerbaijan's Minister of Energy, Parviz Shahbazov, spoke at an event organized by the Federation of German Industries as part of COP29, with the participation of Germany's Vice Chancellor, Minister of Economics and Climate Protection, Robert Habeck, Trend reports via the ministry.

Shahbazov emphasized the role of COP29's presidency in driving constructive action and initiatives on critical issues such as new climate financing, nationally determined contributions (NDCs), national adaptation plans (NAPs), and biennial transparency reports—all aimed at achieving fair climate outcomes, the ministry noted.

The minister noted that the agreement to be reached in Baku represents a historic opportunity to launch the "post-Paris phase" of climate action and highlighted Azerbaijan's "green energy" initiatives as an important step in supporting the global energy transition.

Shahbazov outlined Azerbaijan's ambitious renewable energy goals, stating that the country aims to increase the share of renewable sources in its energy mix to 35.5 percent by 2030 and at least 40 percent by 2035. He also spoke about the green energy corridor projects connecting Europe and Asia, launched under the initiative of President Ilham Aliyev. The green energy corridors — Caspian-Black Sea-Europe, Azerbaijan-Türkiye-Europe, and Central Asia-Azerbaijan — are based on the region's potential of 157 GW of wind energy in the Caspian Sea and Central Asia's renewable energy resources. These corridors will connect the energy networks of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Türkiye, Georgia, Romania, and Hungary.

“These projects offer unique opportunities for cooperation with German and other European companies. German companies are leaders in the energy sector and could become important partners for us, especially in the field of wind energy. Additionally, there are opportunities for collaboration in green hydrogen production and its export to Germany and other European countries. We encourage German companies to explore these opportunities. These partnerships will not only strengthen Europe’s energy security but also unlock new markets for all involved," he said.

Before the event, a meeting was held with Minister Shahbazov, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Economy Mikayil Jabbarov, and German Minister Robert Habeck, where discussions focused on natural gas supplies, cooperation in renewable energy, and the involvement of German companies. Opportunities for collaboration in wind energy potential in the Caspian Sea, green hydrogen production, and its export to European markets, as well as the development of green energy corridor infrastructure, were also explored.
