BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 19. Azerbaijan, in partnership with international stakeholders, is working towards establishing a reliable climate financing system, said Elchin Zeynalov, Azerbaijan's Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Trend reports.

Speaking at a panel discussion on "Financing Agrifood System Transformation" at COP29, the minister noted about the climate financing, saying:

"For us, climate financing is not just about money. It’s about ensuring food security for our population and creating better opportunities for rural communities," Zeynalov explained. "By investing in sustainable agriculture, we protect our natural resources and build a resilient future for all. We understand that financing alone is not enough. Partnerships, knowledge, and a shared commitment are essential. Together with our international partners, we aim to build a robust climate financing system that can truly support our farmers. By aligning our national policies with global climate financing mechanisms, we can mobilize both public and private capital to help our farmers adapt to changing climate conditions."

The 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), which will run until November 22, opened at the Baku Olympic Stadium on November 11.

A total of 198 countries are parties to the Convention. Unless otherwise decided by the parties, COP is held annually. The first COP event was held in March 1995 in Berlin, and its secretariat is located in Bonn.

A whopping 198 countries have thrown their hats in the ring as parties to the Convention. Unless the parties decide to change the game plan, COP takes place once a year. The inaugural COP event took place in March 1995 in the bustling city of Berlin, Germany, with its secretariat nestled in Bonn.
