BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 19. The Western Azerbaijan Community condemns the biased, politicized, and out-of-mandate fifth conclusion of the Advisory Committee on Azerbaijan's implementation of the Council of Europe Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities, the statement of the Western Azerbaijan Community said, Trend reports.
It is noted that the Advisory Committee of the Council of Europe, which did not react to ethnic cleansing, destruction of the cultural heritage of Azerbaijanis in Armenia, and violation of their rights, has demonstrated with its conclusion that it takes a position of slander against Baku and demonstrates support for Armenia, which deported our compatriots and became a mono-ethnic country.
In particular, the most obvious indicator of ethnic and religious discrimination is the Council of Europe's structure, which ignores the right of return of Azerbaijanis who were forcibly expelled from Armenia and only discusses the right of Armenians to return to Karabakh.
However, the Council of Europe has ignored the Western Azerbaijan Community's repeated appeals to monitor Armenia's compliance with its human rights obligations, including those arising from the European Convention on Human Rights and the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities.
Furthermore, the recently published opinion suggests that the Advisory Committee has joined the anti-Azerbaijani campaign, which has intensified in the context of COP29, along with so-called institutions like Freedom House and corrupt politicians like Frank Pallone.
All this suggests that certain circles have turned a number of Council of Europe structures, particularly the Parliamentary Assembly, into tools for playing political games against Azerbaijan. The Western Azerbaijan Community demands the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe put an end to the unacceptable political games and ethnic and religious discrimination of the mentioned consultative institution against Azerbaijan.
