BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 19. Water scarcity is a serious problem of our time, aggravated by climate change, Deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan Umayra Taghiyeva said at the event “Accelerating action to combat climate change through regional cooperation on water, energy, food, and ecosystems," Trend reports.
“Climate change is increasingly affecting the world, affecting water, food, energy, and ecosystems. These spheres are closely linked and require a holistic approach to solving the problem,” Taghiyeva noted.
She drove home the point that water is the lifeblood of agriculture and the backbone of food security. It's also a key player in the energy game, especially when it comes to the burning desire to cut emissions and hit the bullseye of keeping global warming at 1.5°C. Water is also essential for maintaining ecosystems.
“Problems of this magnitude are interconnected, and no country can tackle them alone. Regional cooperation is needed to share resources and build resilience to climate change. Using an integrated approach, we can achieve a synergy that will benefit both nature and society," Taghieva added.
