BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 19. A proposal has been put forward to have the costs of positron emission tomography (PET), an essential diagnostic tool for detecting cancer, covered by Azerbaijan's mandatory health insurance (MHI) system, said Ahliman Amiraslanov, Chairman of the Health Committee of the Azerbaijani Parliament, Trend reports.

Speaking at a parliamentary discussion on the national budget for the upcoming year, Amiraslanov noted that PET scanning, which is considered an essential method for confirming cancer diagnoses, is not currently covered by mandatory health insurance in Azerbaijan.

"The financial cost of this diagnostic method ranges from 1,200 to 1,500 manat ($705.8-$882.3). I would like to see this procedure covered by mandatory health insurance in the future," he said.
