BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 14. The volume of cargo transported by sea in Azerbaijan from January through August 2024 amounted to 5.6 million tons and decreased by 8.8 percent compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.
The data obtained by Trend from the country's State Statistics Committee shows that oil cargo took 48.3 percent of cargo in the reporting period.
According to the information, sea ports carried out loading and unloading operations in a volume of 9.27 million tons, of which 7.4 million tons, or 80.1 percent, were transit cargo.
“As of September 1, 2024, the volume of cargo left in the ports amounted to 409,100 tons," the information notes.
To note, the number of passengers transported by this type of transport increased by 20.6 percent compared to the corresponding period of 2023 and amounted to 18,700 people.
