BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 21. To date, around 3,000 media representatives have registered to participate in COP29, a member of the Coordination Council of the COP29 Operating Company Ayan Najaf said at a seminar for journalists focused on "Understanding and analyzing ESG [environmental, social, and corporate governance] reports" in Baku today, Trend reports.

"The COP29 Conference is attracting attention from both local and international media. Currently, approximately 3,000 representatives of the global press have registered, including local media. Accreditation for work in the UN 'blue zone' will close on October 21. Additionally, the accreditation process for journalists in the 'green zone' has recently begun and will conclude at the end of October. At this moment, we have around 150 applications for accreditation in the 'green zone,'" she said.

To note, the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) will be held in Azerbaijan in November this year. The decision was made at the plenary meeting of COP28 held in Dubai on December 11 last year.

The UN Framework Convention on Climate Change is an agreement signed at the Rio Earth Summit in June 1992 to prevent dangerous human interference in the climate system. The acronym COP (Conference of Parties) stands for Conference of Parties, which is the highest legislative body overseeing the implementation of the Framework Convention on Climate Change.

A total of 198 countries are parties to the convention. Unless the parties have decided otherwise, COP is held annually. The first COP event was held in March 1995 in Berlin, and its secretariat is located in Bonn.
