BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 21. Themes surrounding the "'dual transition" will be actively discussed at COP29, the editor-in-chief of "Harvard Business Review Türkiye" Serdar Turan at a seminar on the topic "Understanding and analyzing ESG [environmental, social, and corporate governance] reports" in Baku today, Trend reports.

"The concept of 'dual transition', which combines digitalization and sustainable development, will be one of the key topics at the Conference of the Parties (COP29). These areas are interconnected through the use of IT and data, creating a 'Sweet Spot' where digital technologies contribute to sustainable development," he said.

Turan emphasized that conference participants will explore how digitalization can aid in reducing carbon emissions and enhancing environmental efficiency.

"Discussions will focus on how IT and data can act as catalysts for improving environmental performance and achieving the goals of the Paris Agreement," he added.

To note, the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) will be held in Azerbaijan in November this year. The decision was made at the plenary meeting of COP28 held in Dubai on December 11 last year.

The UN Framework Convention on Climate Change is an agreement signed at the Rio Earth Summit in June 1992 to prevent dangerous human interference in the climate system. The acronym COP (Conference of Parties) stands for Conference of Parties, which is the highest legislative body overseeing the implementation of the Framework Convention on Climate Change.

A total of 198 countries are parties to the convention. Unless the parties have decided otherwise, COP is held annually. The first COP event was held in March 1995 in Berlin, and its secretariat is located in Bonn.
