BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 19. The majority of preparations for COP29 have been completed, Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan, COP29 President Mukhtar Babayev told reporters at the opening ceremony of the Uniform Distribution and Accreditation Center (UDAC), Trend reports.

The minister noted that the majority of the preparatory work has been completed, and the process continues today.

“Full preparation of the venue for the main event has already been organized. However, the work is still in progress. We are currently focused on preparing the site for the event. The rest of the time will be spent on handing over to the UN secretariat and coordinating with them. The presentation of the new uniforms, which have been carefully designed both in color and design, also took place today. These uniforms are designed for COP29 staff and will help them stand out among the other guests,” he added.

The 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) will be held this November in Azerbaijan. The decision was made at the plenary meeting of COP28 held in Dubai on December 11 last year.

The UN Framework Convention on Climate Change is an agreement signed at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro in June 1992 to prevent dangerous human interference in the climate system. The abbreviation COP (Conference of Parties) means “Conference of Parties” and is the highest legislative body overseeing the implementation of the Framework Convention on Climate Change.

A total of 198 countries are parties to the Convention. Unless otherwise decided by the parties, COP is held annually. The first COP event was held in March 1995 in Berlin, and its secretariat is located in Bonn.
