BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 18. A media tour has been organized at the Baku Olympic Stadium in preparation for COP29, Trend reports.

Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan Anar Alakbarov informed reporters that the stadium will include two expansive halls with seating capacities of 1,600 and 1,300, in addition to other amenities.

He added that one of the largest halls is called "Nizami."

Alakbarov noted that the opening of the event will take place in the large hall on November 11, followed by a summit of leaders.

He went on to say that these venues will also host key events.

Media representatives were introduced to the infrastructure and facilities established on the premises, the registration process for participants, and the ongoing efforts in other areas.

Detailed information was provided about the efforts made in the "Green" and "Blue" zones of COP29.

Director of Venue Management Department for COP29 Turan Suleymanov said that final touches are being applied in the COP29 Blue Zone.

"Blue Zone has numerous sections. 26 meeting rooms and 9 parallel event rooms are available. Meeting attendees will have the essential technical equipment. A pavilion zone with 155 country pavilions will be notable. Guest comfort will be ensured by on-site services," he added.

Speaking about the Green Zone, Head of Sponsorship and Partnership Division COP29 Azerbaijan Leyla Mahmudova said that efforts are ongoing for COP29.

"The expansive footprint of the tent encompasses a remarkable 37,500 square meters, strategically designed to accommodate dynamic pavilions for both local and international enterprises, alongside key stakeholders from the public sector. We are strategically positioning ourselves to incorporate 18 dynamic B2B spaces. Although the pavilions will involve investment, the 'Green Zone' will be open to the community, featuring complimentary access options," she added.

The media representatives also familiarized themselves with the conditions established in the Media Center.

COP29 Media Operations Director Pirim Pirimov said that the media center for COP29 is prepared for use.

“The media center is fully ready. We have provided fully comfortable working conditions for 1,200 media representatives on an area of 6,325 square meters. Small details still require attention. We have allocated work rooms for the media. There are 300 desks for TV and radio broadcasters and the same number for print media. In addition, standup positions and studios are available. These studios can be reserved. The accreditation process is ongoing. The media center will work from 08:00 to 20:00 (GMT +4),” he added.

The 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) will be held this November in Azerbaijan. The decision was made at the plenary meeting of COP28 held in Dubai on December 11 last year.

The UN Framework Convention on Climate Change is an agreement signed at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro in June 1992 to prevent dangerous human interference in the climate system. The abbreviation COP (Conference of Parties) means “Conference of Parties” and is the highest legislative body overseeing the implementation of the Framework Convention on Climate Change.

A total of 198 countries are parties to the Convention. Unless otherwise decided by the parties, COP is held annually. The inaugural COP event took place in March 1995 in the bustling city of Berlin, Germany, with its secretariat setting up shop in Bonn.
