NAKHCHIVAN, Azerbaijan, October 18. The share of green energy in power generation in Nakhchivan has reached 55 percent, the Deputy Head of the State Energy Service of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, Acting Head Maharram Abbasov told Trend.
He noted that the more green energy is used, the less carbon dioxide will be emitted into the atmosphere.
“One of the main goals set for our country is to reduce carbon emissions to 40 percent by 2050.
Currently, the increase in green energy's share of energy production to 55 percent means that carbon dioxide emissions have also been reduced many times over.
The Energy Authority has taken some steps in this direction. It has reduced daily carbon emissions to zero.
The Autonomous Republic's electricity demand of 947,508 kWh was
fully met by green energy on October 11. Some 130,000 cubic meters
of natural gas were saved compared to other days, and carbon
emissions fell to zero that day.
Taking these steps in the framework of the 29th session of the
Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework
Convention on Climate Change (COP29) will lead to a more efficient
use of alternative energy sources in the Autonomous Republic.
To combat climate change caused by global warming, we must be more environmentally friendly, prevent the uncontrolled use of electricity, use it sparingly, and not waste it to keep the environment clean, leaving a cleaner and more livable world heritage for future generations,” he added.
