BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 19. Plenitude has officially commenced construction of a large-scale solar plant in Villarino de los Aires, Salamanca, Spain, Trend reports.

According to the company, The facility, which will have a future installed capacity of 220 MW, is set to become one of the largest solar parks in Castilla y León.

Covering an area of approximately 286 hectares, the solar park will be connected to Spain’s national transmission grid via a 3.2 km underground medium-voltage line at the Villarino de los Aires junction. The plant will feature 365,300 bifacial solar modules, and is expected to generate more than 400,000 MWh of electricity annually.

The project, slated for completion by 2025, is being developed in partnership with Sterling & Wilson, one of the world’s largest photovoltaic construction companies, alongside local firms.

Environmental conservation is a key priority for the project. Measures have been taken to protect the local landscape, including the conservation and relocation of rural huts, the preservation of natural water channels, and the installation of permeable hunting fences around the site. Plenitude is also coordinating with local farmers to ensure that the project aligns with existing land use.

“The Villarino project is a shining example of how we can integrate our work with the local territory. Today’s ceremony, with all stakeholders present, reflects our commitment to this collaborative approach, consistent with our growth strategy in Spain,” said Mariangiola Mollicone, Head of Western Europe Renewables and Managing Director of Plenitude in Spain.

With this new solar plant, Plenitude is further strengthening its presence in Castilla y León, where it already operates a 13 MW wind farm. The company currently manages over 440 MW of installed capacity in photovoltaic and wind energy across Spain, including regions such as Galicia, La Rioja, Catalonia, and Murcia. Additionally, Plenitude has around 1 GW of projects under construction in Andalusia, Castilla y León, and Extremadura, and is working on developing over 2 GW of new projects across the country.
