NAKHCHIVAN, Azerbaijan, October 19. The meetings with leading global energy companies such as Total Energies, Czech Engineering, Nobel Energy, Masdar, ACWA Power, China Energy, and Notus are being held in Nakhchivan to implement projects in the field of solar energy, and a roadmap is being developed in this regard, Director of Nakhchivan Solar Stations Farid Safarov told Trend.

According to him, all these energy investments are aimed at developing the sector of renewable and alternative energy sources.

He noted that the first Khalkhal solar power plant with a capacity of 22 megawatts was built in Nakhchivan in 2015.

“This plant is the second largest HPP in the South Caucasus and in the country in terms of generating capacity after the Garadagh solar power plant with a capacity of 230 megawatts. It generates 30 million kWh of energy per year. Khalkhal accounts for 20 percent of the production capacity of alternative and renewable energy sources. A total of 86,383 solar panels have been installed on an area of 36 ha," he added.

Presently, four hydroelectric power plants are operating in Nakhchivan: Khalkhal, Sharur, Kengerli, and Julfa wind-solar hybrid power plants.

"In fact, the energy giants' interest in Nakhchivan is since it has a lot of sunny days," Safarov noted.
