BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 18. Global climate change is having an impact on the economy of Azerbaijan, the chairperson of the Central Bank of Azerbaijan Taleh Kazimov said at the forum titled “Green finance and sustainable development” in Baku today, Trend reports.
"Global climate change affects the economy of Azerbaijan. Therefore, investment in green finance is important not only in terms of providing environmental benefits but also for creating a sustainable economy. We must constantly focus on priorities such as raising public awareness of the importance of green finance, establishing dialog between stakeholders, and finding innovative solutions.
As a Central Bank, we are cognizant of the priorities facing us concerning this important challenge, and we have a strategic agenda for the medium term. This agenda includes important tasks such as improving the regulatory framework and stimulating green investment. Our main objective is to ensure that financial institutions adapt their portfolios to sustainability objectives and have the necessary tools and guidance to work in this area,” he said.
To note, at present, the Central Bank of Azerbaijan has started
to develop a taxonomy of green finance.
The Central Bank together with government agencies, industry
associations, financial institutions, investors, and international
organizations held consultations on the initial version of the
taxonomy. In the next stage, it is planned to submit the final
draft of the taxonomy to the government for approval.
