BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 21. The exchanges of information between Iran and the US are carried out through the Swiss Embassy in Tehran, spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry Esmaeil Baghaee said at a press conference held in Tehran on October 21, Trend reports.
According to him, the mascot process, which started some time ago due to Iran's nuclear issue, is currently on hiatus due to the latest situation in the region. However, the exchange of information between Iran and the US continues under special conditions.
Baghaee stated that Iran's constructive efforts to enhance relations with EU member states had seen adverse responses from the EU. The most recent instance of this is the European Union's fresh sanctions imposed on Iran. The visit of Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi to New York involved conversations with the foreign ministers of three European nations (the United Kingdom, France, and Germany) regarding the nuclear program and several matters. Iran is prepared to collaborate with nations founded on mutual respect and its national interests.
39 Iranian MPs have petitioned the Supreme National Security Council of Iran to revise the country's defense doctrine regarding the production of nuclear weapons.
Tensions have recently risen in the Middle East, mainly between Iran and Israel. Several circles in Iran are considering various options given these strains.
Meanwhile, in January 2016, Iran and the P5+1 group (the US, Russia, China, the UK, France, and Germany) implemented the Comprehensive Joint Plan of Action concerning Iran’s nuclear program.
In May 2018, the US announced its withdrawal from the deal and reimposed sanctions on Iran.
By the end of 2020, the Iranian parliament decided to pursue a strategic plan in the nuclear sector to counter the sanctions, leading to a suspension of additional steps and the Additional Protocol as per the nuclear agreement.
Consequently, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) faced a reduction in monitoring capabilities by 20–30 percent.
To note, the Council of Europe on October 14 imposed restrictive measures on seven individuals and seven organizations in connection with Iran's transfer of missiles and drones to Russia, as well as actions detrimental to peace and security in the Middle East and the Red Sea region.
