BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 21. A seminar for journalists on the topic "Understanding and analyzing ESG [environmental, social, and corporate governance] reports" has been held in Baku, Trend reports.
The seminar was organized by COP29 Operating Company, Coca-Cola Azerbaijan and PwC Azerbaijan.
Welcoming remarks at the seminar were delivered by a member of the Coordination Council of the COP29 Operating Company, Ayan Najaf, Chair of the COP29 Azerbaijan Operating Company and Chief Operating Officer for COP29, Narmin Jarchalova, and Senior Director of Public Affairs, Communications & Sustainability, Eurasia and the Middle East at Coca-Cola Company, Elshad Farzaliyev.
The seminar covered topics such as understanding changes in business paradigms, the legal framework for ESG in modern Azerbaijan, how to read and analyze ESG reports, and analysis of ESG reports in the industrial sector.
The member of the Coordination Council of the COP29 Operating Company Ayan Najaf said that we aim to optimize COP29's effectiveness in all aspects.
"Our goal and main intention after the preparations is to hold the COP29 conference in a way that is effective and productive in all aspects. We bear a great responsibility in this matter. I would like all global studies to be accessible during these days, and the media to play a key role in covering the event. Representatives of the media will be actively involved, and educational programs for them hold an important place in our strategy. It is encouraging that the foundations for working with key organizations and delegations have already been laid," she added.
Moreover, she stated that the inauguration of the COP29 Heritage Park is planned in Azerbaijan.
“A COP29 heritage park is planned to be inaugurated in Azerbaijan on an area of 10 ha, where 10,000 paulownia trees will be planted,” she said.
Ayan Najaf added that to date, around 3,000 media representatives have registered to participate in COP29.
"The COP29 Conference is attracting attention from both local and international media. Currently, approximately 3,000 representatives of the global press have registered, including local media. Accreditation for work in the UN 'blue zone' will close on October 21. Additionally, the accreditation process for journalists in the 'green zone' has recently begun and will conclude at the end of October. At this moment, we have around 150 applications for accreditation in the 'green zone,'" she said.
The editor-in-chief of "Harvard Business Review Türkiye" Serdar Turan stated that themes surrounding the "'dual transition" will be actively discussed at COP29.
"The concept of 'dual transition', which combines digitalization and sustainable development, will be one of the key topics at the Conference of the Parties (COP29). These areas are interconnected through the use of IT and data, creating a 'Sweet Spot' where digital technologies contribute to sustainable development," he said.
Turan emphasized that conference participants will explore how digitalization can aid in reducing carbon emissions and enhancing environmental efficiency.
"Discussions will focus on how IT and data can act as catalysts for improving environmental performance and achieving the goals of the Paris Agreement," he added.
