ASTANA, Kazakhstan, October 21. The volume of container transportation from Russia to China through Kazakhstan increased by 63 percent in the first nine months of 2024, Trend reports.
The data was revealed during the 25th meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission (IGC) on Cooperation between Kazakhstan and Russia, held in Moscow.
The meeting emphasized the growing cooperation between the two countries in the transport and logistics sectors. At the same time, container traffic along the China-Europe-China route, which runs through both Russia and Kazakhstan, increased by 65 percent compared to the same period of 2023.
To further enhance cargo flow along the China-Kazakhstan-Russia corridor, the parties agreed to explore the construction of critical transport infrastructure near Selyatino station.
In April, the CRK Terminal project was launched at this station, aimed at establishing a modern transport and logistics hub. This joint initiative will support the efficient handling of cargo traveling from Xi'an (China) through Dostyk/Altynkol (Kazakhstan) to Selyatino (Russia), bolstering the development of international transport corridors and improving the competitiveness of transit shipments through Kazakhstan.
The Kazakh delegation also raised concerns over Russia’s restrictions on importing certain Kazakh agricultural products due to quarantine measures. The parties agreed to hold bilateral consultations to resolve the issue promptly.
In addition to transport, the meeting reviewed the broader state of bilateral cooperation in areas such as trade, industry, energy, finance, culture, science, education, and tourism.
Meanwhile, from January through August 2024, trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Russia reached $17.2 billion.
