BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 23. A national contribution document is being prepared for Azerbaijan, Deputy Minister of Energy and Chief Executive Officer of COP29 Elnur Soltanov said at an event titled "Sustainable Transport for the Future," Trend reports.
The deputy minister stated that this document will serve as the foundation for climate discussions, as it outlines the commitments and action plans of all countries to combat climate change.
He noted that Azerbaijan's total emissions in 2022 exceeded 61 million tons of CO2, which represents approximately one-thousandth of global emissions.
Soltanov noted that the transport sector accounts for about 15 percent of emissions in Azerbaijan.
"Around 5 percent of emissions come from aviation, 2 percent from maritime transport, and 1 percent from rail transport," he added.
