BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 23. The Azerbaijan-EU Green Energy Corridor project is set to enter its active phase of implementation next year, Azerbaijani Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov announced during the forum "Strengthening Energy Security Through Innovative Technologies" in China, Trend reports.
The forum was held as part of the energy ministers' meeting for Belt and Road countries.
Minister Shahbazov revealed that the preliminary feasibility study report for the Caspian-Black Sea-European Green Energy Corridor will be presented at COP29. The project will then transition to its active implementation phase starting in 2025. Additionally, work has begun on a feasibility study for the Azerbaijan-Türkiye-Europe green energy corridor, a 1 GW project developed under the Green Energy Zone Concept.
Shahbazov also announced that an Intergovernmental Agreement on Strategic Partnership in the Development and Transfer of Green Energy between Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan will be signed during COP29.
On December 17, 2022, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Romania, and Hungary signed a strategic partnership agreement, which includes plans for the construction of a 1,000 MW submarine energy cable under the Black Sea, spanning 1,195 kilometers. This cable will transmit green electricity generated in Azerbaijan and Georgia to Romania, with further transport to Hungary and the rest of Europe, enhancing Europe’s access to renewable energy from the Caucasus region.
