BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 22. The pre-election period in Georgia is unfolding calmly, with the populace demonstrating resilience against efforts by specific factions to disrupt stability, member of the Georgian Dream party David Songulashvili said in a statement to Trend.
Songulashvili asserted that surveys conducted by multiple impartial research firms suggest the ruling party can confidently achieve victory and establish the government.
"This outcome reflects our sustained efforts that correspond with the expectations of the majority of constituents. We are adeptly addressing issues, both external and internal, owing to robust societal backing," he said.
He painted a broad picture of the myriad issues on the table, shining a light on the clear feedback from sociological surveys about the government's initiatives and schemes.
"We have made significant strides toward Europe while strengthening our sovereignty. Unemployment has halved, and economic growth in the post-pandemic period over the past 3 years has averaged 9.4 percent per year. These figures reflect tangible changes, evident in both the number of infrastructure projects and the improved well-being of the population. Guests in our country, including those who have recently visited Georgia, can attest to these noticeable transformations. I recognize the perspective of opposition representatives who focus on real numbers, pressing issues, and concrete indicators rather than emotional rhetoric that resonates little with the public. They lack viable arguments against our policies. At this stage, the choice in Georgia is straightforward—our supporters understand they are choosing peace, progress, and a rightful future in Europe," Songulashvili said.
The MP acknowledged recent alerts from Georgian officials concerning possible provocations, underscoring that extremism does not possess a political or intellectual basis in Georgian culture, suggesting that few persons desire to disturb the calm.
"I want to reiterate that extremism inside Georgian society is devoid of any political, social, or ideological basis. This suggests that the number of persons attempting to destabilize the situation is quite small, and there is little anticipation of the formation of significant organized criminal gangs. Furthermore, governmental institutions tasked with upholding public order are vigilant in averting any provocations.
Identifying a precise organization that supports the provocateurs is tough; however, it generally comprises those factions aiming to disturb life in Georgia. Be assured that any such actions will elicit a stringent legal response.
I have already analyzed the election results and presented my predictions, which I assess based on both objective research and my interactions with communities. As a delegate of the governing party in multiple municipalities within Kakheti, I continuously engage with constituents—not alone during electoral cycles but on a regular basis. I extract insights straight from their sentiments. Our mandate is explicit, transparent, and public, and we are cognizant of our objectives toward Europe," he added.
Songulashvili pointed out that the ruling party's election platform lays all its cards on the table, highlighting the key indicators and achievements the country is gunning for, from candidacy to EU membership, with each goal spelled out in black and white.
"We do not conceal this from our Western partners, nor will we after the elections. I am confident that our relations with the European Union will be stronger than ever, and this will be the focus of the future parliament and government.
The victory of the Georgian Dream is inevitable, signaling to our partners and neighbors that we will remain steadfast allies in the region. We have consistently demonstrated our commitment to collaboration, upholding the ideals of friendship, mutual respect, and support," he concluded.
