BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 22. The railway sector is critically important for Azerbaijan's development and plays a key role in attracting investments and increasing trade volumes, Acting Head of the Research and Development Center at the Azerbaijan Railways CJSC Orkhan Ahmadzade said at an information event titled "Innovations in Railroad Technology in Azerbaijan: Partnerships and Opportunities for German Companies" in Baku, Trend reports.
"As Azerbaijan rapidly becomes a key center for trade and logistics, our strategic location at the crossroads of Europe and Asia allows us to play an important role in routes like the Middle Corridor, which connects China with Europe. The government is actively working to create a stable, transparent, and business-friendly environment to attract both local and foreign investments, particularly in infrastructure and logistics. These efforts not only position Azerbaijan as a significant player in global trade but also help the country diversify its economy," he said.
Ahmadzade emphasized that the railway sector is essential for the country's growth, particularly in investment attraction and trade expansion.
"Significant investments have been made to modernize and expand the railway network. Key projects include the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway and improvements to the north-south and east-west corridors aimed at enhancing cargo transport across borders and increasing regional connectivity. These projects are not just infrastructure initiatives; they reflect Azerbaijan's commitment to becoming a logistics hub for Eurasia," he added.
He noted that this is part of broader efforts to strengthen Azerbaijan's position as a crucial link in global supply chains.
