BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 22. In September 2024, the Interconnector Greece-Bulgaria (IGB) facilitated the transport of a substantial volume of gas, the ICGB, the pipeline operator, told Trend.
For the month of September, the total gas transport volumes were as follows:
- From Greece to Bulgaria: 896,109.86 MWh
- From Bulgaria to Greece (via virtual reverse flow): 261,053.73 MWh
From January to September 2024, the IGB transported a total of:
- From Greece to Bulgaria: 7,906,714.14 MWh
- From Bulgaria to Greece (via virtual reverse flow): 1,462,269.93 MWh
Since the commissioning of the interconnector on October 1, 2022, up to October 1, 2024, the cumulative gas transportation volumes have reached:
- From Greece to Bulgaria: 28,319,836.10 MWh
- From Bulgaria to Greece (via virtual reverse flow): 1,583,975.93 MWh
The IGB gas pipeline connects with the Greek national gas transmission system (DESFA S.A.) and the Trans-Adriatic gas pipeline (TAP AG) in the area of Komotini (Greece), and with the Bulgarian gas transmission system (Bulgartransgaz EAD) in the area of Stara Zagora.
The total length of the gas pipeline is 182 km, the diameter of the pipe - 32'' - and a design capacity of up to 3 billion cubic meters per year in the direction Greece - Bulgaria.
Depending on the market interest for larger capacity and the possibilities of the neighboring gas transmission systems, the capacity of IGB is designed with the option for increase up to 5 billion cubic meters per year with additional construction of a compressor station.
