ASTANA, Kazakhstan, October 21. Significant progress has been made in the final stages of constructing a large customs terminal at the "Dovut-Ota" border post, located 450 km from Nukus in Uzbekistan's Karakalpakstan, Trend reports.

More than 150 workers and 30 specialized construction vehicles are currently on-site. The main structural work is nearly complete, with finishing touches and the installation of internal engineering systems in progress.

The new terminal will include modern facilities for customs and cargo operations, featuring a registration center for customs, phytosanitary, and veterinary authorities. The site will also offer warehouses, inspection areas, and a concrete-paved parking lot with space for up to 350 trucks. Plans also include a hotel, a driver's cafeteria, and vehicle maintenance stations.

Earlier this year, a working group visited ongoing upgrades at the "Zhibek Zholy — Gishtkuprik" and "Kaplanbek — Navoi" customs posts. These renovations aim to triple throughput capacity at the Kazakhstan-Uzbekistan border, with "Zhibek Zholy" set to handle 35,000 people per day once completed.
