BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 21. Disinformation is actively spread through social networks, Deputy Executive Director of the Media Development Agency of Azerbaijan Natig Mammadli said at a public discussion in the Azerbaijani Parliament on the topic "Hybrid threats against COP29," Trend reports.

He noted that the primary aim of this disinformation is to throw the Azerbaijani population into confusion, cloud the information space, and hinder the spread of reliable information regarding the country.

“Since the start of this year, we have seen an increase in cyber threats aimed at the head of state. Various hyperlinks are set up, and fake interviews are put out. It is rather peculiar, but manipulation by the media is typical of Western media,” Mammadli added.

He drove home the point that there are plenty of tricks up the sleeve to tackle those pesky negative trends. He also added that media outlets pulling the wool over people's eyes are steering public opinion down the wrong path in their countries.

“This activity contravenes the fundamental norms of international journalism. We should not anticipate that the media of a foreign nation will provide comprehensive and impartial information regarding Azerbaijan while operating from outside our borders,” he noted.

“The primary objective of Azerbaijani media is to communicate the truth about our nation to the world in an accurate and comprehensive manner. Our media are advancing in this direction, addressing contemporary concerns. We are not at an optimal level; nevertheless, we must persist in our endeavor,” Mammadli concluded.
