BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 26. The Heydar Aliyev Foundation has held a meeting with the Turkish Zero Waste Foundation (Sıfır Atık), Trend reports.

Anar Alakbarov, Executive Director of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, spoke about the organization's areas of focus under the leadership of Azerbaijan's First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva, as well as the initiatives it has undertaken.

Highlighting environmental protection projects as a key focus area of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, which was founded on May 10, 2004, and is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, Anar Alakbarov emphasized both the completed and upcoming initiatives of the Foundation in this field.

During the meeting, it was highlighted that Azerbaijan is hosting the significant international event COP29 this year. Additionally, by joining the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, Azerbaijan has committed to combating global climate change. President Ilham Aliyev has designated the liberated territories of Azerbaijan as a green energy zone, with plans for them to become a net-zero emission zone by 2050. The Heydar Aliyev Foundation was acknowledged for its substantial support of environmental protection projects within the country.

Samad Agirbas, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Zero Waste Foundation, established at the initiative of the First Lady of Turkey, Emine Erdogan, along with Gokhan Jangi, Assistant to the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, emphasized that the organization's primary aim is to safeguard the environment and human health. They highlighted a particular focus on initiatives such as wastewater reuse and recycling promotion, while also discussing projects already undertaken in this regard.

A Memorandum of Understanding was signed during the meeting by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and the Turkish Zero Waste Foundation. This agreement details partnerships not only for COP29, but also for environmental protection, cultural exchange promotion, and cultural heritage preservation.
